Provides read-only access and does not allow you to make records in file.
Linux Reader is an application that lets you explore Ext2, Ext3, and Ext4 Linux file systems not recognized natively by Windows operating systems.
This program has a GUI that resembles the Windows Explorer, so navigating through the files and folders will be an easy task. It displays thumbnails for images, videos, or PDF files, as long as you have their respective programs to open them with. Once you have located the files you're looking for, a double-click opens an Export Wizard, which lets you retrieve files to your Windows partition or disk.
For security reasons, the only task you are allowed to do is saving files and folders. You don't have writing permission so you can never mess with the sensitive data that could potentially damage your Linux system. The possible downside is that you actually can access files from users with password-protected accounts.
Other supported file systems are ReiserFS, Mac HFS and HFS+, and Windows Fat, exFAT, and NTFS.
Pros
- Thumbnails for recognized media files are displayed
- Linux files and folders are open in read-only mode
- The graphic Interface looks like Windows Explorer
Cons
- Can pose a security issue for passworded users
Only work for Windows? Not any Mac OS solutions?
